Alveolar Ridge Preservation

This 1-day course is aimed at general dental practitioners interested in learning the skills of alveolar ridge preservation post surgical extraction of teeth.*
The main focus is on the hands-on component. You will be practicing bone grafting different types of sockets with and without bony defects using Smart Bone blocks and chips.
You will also practice preparing PRGF fractions** using the Endoret PRGF components and mixing it with bone chips to create “sticky bone”.
NO animal heads are used on the course.
Places are limited to 15 participants/course
The masterclass will attract 5 hours of verifiable CPD that fulfills learning outcomes C of the new GDC CPD guidelines.
* This is not intended as an advanced bone grafting course.
** You will be carrying out phlebotomy on your colleagues and use your own blood to do the separation and prepare PRGF as well as sticky bone to use on the models.
If you prefer not to be using blood products or carrying out phlebotomy on your colleagues. We will use substitutes to imitate the real scenarios.
1. Understand the meaning and indications of alveolar ridge preservation.
2. Differentiate between various biomaterials used.
3. Discuss specific types of socket defects.
4. Practical steps required to graft the socket.
5. Understand what PRGF is and how to prepare it.
6. How to mix PRGF with bone substitutes to create sticky bone.
7. Other uses of PRGF.
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify cases suitable for alveolar ridge preservation.
2. Carry out alveolar ridge preservation on different types of socket defects.
3. Practice separating the various PRGF fractions.
4. Mix PRGF with bone substitute and carry out alveolar ridge preservation with it.
5. Carry out suturing of the sockets.
